Highlights alternative organic synthesis reactions & routes, green chemistry or cost-effective approaches
These reactions proceed by movement of pairs of electrons from electron-rich atoms (nucleophiles, filled orbitals) to electron-deficient atoms (electrophiles, empty orbitals). Polar mechanisms can be further divided into reactions that occur under basic conditions and reactions that occur under acidic conditions.
These are reactions that occur by moving single electrons. Some free-radical reactions require electron-transfer reagents and some do not.
These reactions occur by moving electrons in a circle. The molecules involved in pericyclic reactions are usually multi-bonded (unsaturated)
These are reactions that require a transition metal, i.e. are metal-mediated reactions
